A Male Cat??

Here are Louie and Hank. Aren't they sweet? Not! Hank is pregnant!
When the lady brought them to us as two male kittens we never thought to "sex" them. Didn't think another thing about it..... until Hank started "showing" earlier this week. I'm thinking about calling the local news to do an interview about the miraculous male cat who has given birth!
The sad thing about this is we've had this happen more than once. Oh well....maybe we should "check" better next time. Anybody want some free kittens?

Goats Milk Soap

Here are some soaps I have made using goat's milk from my girls. I am really enjoying making and using something that I actually know exactly what is in the ingredients. We are trying to become more conscious about what we are putting in and on our bodies.

This is my kitchen soap that has oatmeal and honey with coffee to neutralize strong odors like onions and garlic. If you fished or done other yucky things it would help with those smells too. It has just a touch of Olive Blossom scent and is super soft on the hands.

This is the Summer Market soap I made with blackberries that I picked myself. I ate way more than actually made it in the soap. This was especially made for the Spiritual Seekers craft show since there signature color is purple. I really like the way it turned out.

This is one of those experiments that turned out great. It reminds me of rainbow sherbet. The pink layer is actually "Pink" scent. The lime layer is "Summer Sorbet" and the purple layer is the "Summer Market scent. My teenager and her friends thinks it's "so cool"

All of my soaps and other handmade creations are available for purchase in my Etsy shop.

The Goat Part of the Family

These are the original five goats we started with....Pearl, Billy Ray, Tillie and Liz. We just had to add Sady to the mix about a week later. The non-goat in the picture is my husband. This is the man that firmly stated..."you can get the goats....but they're your goats....don't expect me to be involved!" Also note that the "playground" with the ramp was created by him!

We've had sixteen kids born here in the past 22 months and have bought another buck and doe. We've been extremely fortunate so far with our goats. **knock**knock** on the computer desk** We have only lost a set of twins at birth and one was killed by a dog while out on loan for a friends daughter to show.

Most of our good luck is due in no small part to my Great Pyrenees and Anatolian guard dogs. This picture was taken last week of Briggs and Stratton. They are now 17 months old and are simply amazing guardians. They have alerted us to numerous things that could have turned into big problems. They have been here with us for a year now this week and I can just now "lightly touch" Stratton on the nose. Briggs is a little more trusting but I couldn't just grab him and pet him on the head. Might draw back a nub! They wouldn't ever hurt us but let a stranger come near and look out. Don't have to worry too much about burglars and such around here.

This is the latest addition to our little herd. Her name is Spring and she is the most independent little gal you've ever seen. She's usually hanging around with the dogs or the big bucks. She's not afraid of anything and only cares about moma when it's time for a snack.

I just love this blog thing! Who would have thought I would have so much fun posting pictures of my goats. I do love my family just not quite as obsessed with them. Actually....I just have more pictures of the animals.

The Family Behind The Farm

I don't pose too often for pictures. This picture was taken last year in Lake City, Colorado.

Intro To The Farm Life

Well I would have been the last one to be labeled a farmgirl by anyone who knew me well. I didn't even like to break a sweat much less get my hands dirty! When I married my husband I literally didn't know the difference between a bull and a cow. I thought the bull was the one with horns. We don't even want to talk about where I thought the meat in the grocery store came from. I was devastated to find out that bacon came from a pig.

Well fast forward seventeen plus years and we're in our on little piece of heaven out in the woods. We raise goats, are building our own house and other various things you do in the country. The building the house together is a whole different post. When I say building our own house I mean just me and my husband. No contractors, no friends chipping in.....nada, zilch, nobody but us! Oh yea...we have absolutely NO building experience. But we are very proud of what we've accomplished so far.

So needless to say this city raised girl is a certified farmgirl at this point. I don't even have to wear gloves any more to the goat pens. You don't realize how big of a deal that is to me. When we tell people that I have goats they just look at me and bust out laughing. Hey....I've come a long way!
